Praised for her radiant tone, expressive artistry, and seamless crossover versatility, American soprano Lydia Gray is a multi-hyphenate artist whose work spans opera, musical theatre, and film. A compelling presence both onstage and on screen, she is known for her musical intelligence, emotional sincerity, and collaborative spirit.
A Filstrup Resident Artist with Tulsa Opera, Ms. Gray covered Micaëla in La tragédie de Carmen and will appear as Madame Silberpeal in Mozart’s The Impresario in 2027. Most recently, she made her Wichita Grand Opera debut as Martha Jefferson in 1776. In 2025, she made her Tulsa Shakespeare Company debut as Olivia in Twelfth Night and was subsequently invited to join the company as an Associate Company Member. Earlier highlights include a fellowship at Opernfest Prague and selection for OPERA America’s Career Blueprints program in New York City.
Ms. Gray made her mainstage operatic debut with Heartland Opera Theatre as Laetitia in The Old Maid and the Thief, a role she prepared in just two weeks to critical acclaim. Additional operatic credits include Musetta in La bohème and Josephine in H.M.S. Pinafore (Red River Lyric Opera), Beatriz in Catán’s La hija de Rappaccini, Lightfoot McClendon in Floyd’s Cold Sassy Tree, and Juliette in community outreach performances of Roméo et Juliette.
A versatile stage performer, Ms. Gray’s credits include Elvira in Blithe Spirit (Oklahoma Shakespeare in the Park), Jenny in The Christians (American Theatre Company), and Judith Bliss in Hay Fever (Theatre West). Musical theatre credits include Jenny Lind in Barnum, Guenevere in Camelot, Laurey in Oklahoma!, Maria in The Sound of Music, Rapunzel in Into the Woods, and Claire de Loone in On the Town. She also earned recognition for her work as a swing in Beauty and the Beast, stepping into multiple featured roles on short notice, including Madame de la Grande Bouche and two of the three Silly Girls.
On screen, Ms. Gray has appeared as Mistress Page in a film adaptation of The Merry Wives of Windsor, Ms. Linda in Be Good, Julie in Heaven’s Date, and Susan in The Lesson. She is represented by Reel Talent Studio for film, television, and commercial work and is currently an Equity Membership Candidate with the Actors’ Equity Association.
Among her honors, Ms. Gray earned first place in the Hyechka Club of Tulsa Collegiate Awards, second place in the Southeastern NATS Graduate Women’s Division, and two Miss Oklahoma Talent Awards for piano and voice. She holds a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Florida State University and a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Oklahoma.
